Air France-KLM start inflight Wi-Fi service
Air France and KLM launched an inflight Wi-Fi trial in partnership with Panasonic Avionics on two long-haul flights today, AF012 from Paris to New York and KL757 from Amsterdam to Panama. Travellers can send SMS and e-mail, and surf the internet at a price of EUR 10.95 per hour or EUR 19.95 for the whole flight. Mobile text and data usage will be billed to users according to their own roaming agreements. An inflight website offers live TV news and sports channels, as well as airline and destination information. The trial will continue on two Boeing 777-300s over various routes through the rest of the year.

Air France has decided to install Wi-Fi in all of its long haul aircraft by 2020, reports La Tribune, citing unnamed internal sources. Air France-KLM allows use of e-devices on take-off, landing

Air France-KLM now allows passengers to user their electronic devices, including smartphones and tablets, during take-off and landing, France Mobiles reports. Passengers must use the devices in flight mode, however, which excludes Bluetooth or Wi-Fi communications. The airline is applying a December 2013 directive of the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Air France-KLM plans to supply ground staff with mobile devices, to introduce self-service kiosks at airports and to enable online purchases of ancilliary services, according to executive vice president and chief information officer Jean-Christophe Lalanne. KLM tests Wi-Fi for long haul flights

Air France-KLM will on 2 April begin an internet trial on board of two Boeing 777 planes, a KLM spokesperson announced, in response reports in De Telegraaf. The test will look at wireless connections in one KLM plane and one Air France plane. The company is for the moment only considering Wi-Fi for long flights. The group is working with Panasonic on the matter. De Telegraaf earlier reported that on-board Wi-Fi would not be free but cost around EUR 10 per hour. Users would be able to text, email and call.
