
TCL subsidiary Alcatel OneTouch has announced that it will now operate under the brand name Alcatel. The company’s new brand is intended to be in tune with its target market, millennials. Aimed at college students, young adults, young professionals and young parents, Alcatel has announced a range of new products at Mobile World Congress, including the Idol 4 smartphone series and the Plus 10 LTE-enabled two-in-one tablet.
The Idol 4 series consists of the 5.2-in Idol 4 and 5.5-in Idol 4S, the first using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and the second a Snapdragon 652. The Idol 4S offers a 2k Amoled display. Alcatel writes that both new phones feature cameras offering ultrafast auto-focus (0.1-0.3 seconds), 360 degree photos and selfies. They also come with two 3.6 watt speakers and Hi-Fi surround-sound for the headset, as well as a Boom key to perform different functions such as taking photos in standby mode, shuffling photos in the gallery, and enhancing the bass, volume and clarity of music. The Idol 4 an Idol 4S will come with four metal frames, gold, dark grey, rose gold and silver.
Alcatel’s Plus 10 2-in-1 tablet/laptop is its first such product powered by Windows 10. It features a quad-core Intel processor, dual front speakers with 3D audio effect, and a high-resolution (1200 x 800) IPS display. Its detachable Wi-Fi/LTE keyboard can serve as a Wi-Fi hotspots for up to fifteen devices. The Plus 10 comes with front and rear cameras, and 32 GB of internal memory with an SD card slot for additional storage. The new two-in-one will come in metallic silver, matte white, matte black and a grey leather finish. It will be available for sale in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa in June.
