Alipay to launch m-payment service in Taiwan

Chinese electronic payment platform Alipay has received approval to launch a payment service in Taiwan in the fourth quarter, said Alipay's operator Ant Financial. Ant Financial, Alibaba's financial service affiliate, have no details related to the specific timetable, Xinhua news agency reports. According to Ant Financial, Alipay will work with E. Sun Commercial Bank in Taiwan to offer a QR mobile payment service.

By end-2015, over 3,000 convenience stores, shopping malls and smaller shops frequented by mainland tourists will offer the payment service. Alipay reports it currently has over 400 million users, handling 120 million transactions per day. Half of these transactions are made from smartphones.

Ant Financial raises USD 4.5 bln in fresh capital

Ant Financial Services Group, operator the Chinese payment service Alipay and an affiliate of Alibaba, has raised USD 4.5 billion in new financing, giving it a valuation of around USD 60 billion. Alibaba's Ant Financial prepares for IPO - report

Alibaba's Ant Financial is planning an initial public offering on Shanghai's main board in what could be China's highest IPO valuation since 2010, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. An IPO at a USD 60 billion valuation would be the biggest on the mainland since Agricultural Bank of China listed in Shanghai in 2010.
