Amazon.com wants to set up a stand-alone music service, separate from its Prime subscription, and has started talks with record labels, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The USD 9.99 per month service may be introduced in the coming months but no deals have yet been reached.
Prime subscribers pay USD 99 per year for free two-day shipping and other perks, but a separate service is seen helping the company offer a wider array of newer songs. It could also work with Amazon’s voice-activated Echo device, which offers music-streaming in the home, among other features.
Amazon was not immediately available for comment.
