Amazon launches cloud music service
Amazon.com is launching a cloud music service, available online and from Android devices. Amazon is offering an inital 5GB storage free, upgraded to 20GB for a year when customers buy an album from its MP3 store. Customers can store all kinds of digital files on their Amazon Cloud Drive, which is accessible from any internet connection. Any new purchases from the Amazon MP3 store do not count towards the storage allowance. Files can be stored in AAC or MP3 formats and will be uploaded to Cloud Drive in the original bit rate. The music is available for listening via the Amazon Cloud Player for Web, which supports a variety of browsers. The company also announced the Cloud Player for Android, which is bundled into the new version of the Amazon MP3 App. It includes the full Amazon MP3 Store and the mobile version of Cloud Player. Customers can use the app to play music stored on their Cloud Drive and music stored locally on their Android devices. Cloud Player is available free, and customers can add storage to the Cloud Drive starting at USD 20 per year for 20GB.
