
America Movil net profit falls in Q2 on forex losses

America Movil reported second-quarter revenues up 9.3 percent from a year earlier to MXN 19.7 billion. Mobile revenues rose 14.1 percent, and fixed-line revenues were up 1.7 percent. Excluding currency effects, revenues rose 6.3 percent year-on-year, led by mobile data and pay-TV, which grew 32 and 23 percent respectively. EBITDA was up 3.1 percent from a year ago to MXN 65.5 billion, while the margin fell to 34.1 percent. Due to foreign exchange losses, America Movil's net profit fell 45.5 percent to MXN 13.3 billion. The operator finished June with a total 251.8 million mobile subscribers, up by 5.9 million from March and 6.7 percent more than a year ago. Mobile growth was led by Brazil, Mexico and the US, which all added over 1 million customers. The fixed-line activities finished June with 61.2 million revenue-generating units, 12.4 percent more than in 2011 and a net gain of 1.7 million in Q2, of which 1.3 million came from Brazil. America Movil ended the period with MXN 361 billion in net debt, up by MXN 29.7 billion over the first half of 2012 due to its investments in KPN and Telekom Austria.
