Android, iOS devices activated jump to 6.8 mln on Christmas

The number of iOS and Android devices activated on Christmas Day jumped to 6.8 million, from 2.8 million a year earlier, according to data from Flurry Analytics. On a normal day, around 1.3-1.8 million such devices are activated, the market researcher estimates. The data also shows a spike in app downloads, to around 242 million on Christmas day, versus around 108 million on a normal day in December. Flurry said this was more than double any other day in the history of iOS and Android devices, except 24 December, which delivered roughly 150 million downloads. As observed in 2010, Flurry expects high download levels from Christmas through New Year's Day, with around 1 billion apps in total downloaded during the period. Flurry provides analytics for app developers and marketers. With around 140,000 apps using its services, it estimates it can detect 100 percent of Apple and Android devices activated. It also triangulates its data with figures from Apple and Google.
