Apple buys wireless charging specialist PowerbyProxi
Apple has bought wireless charging specialist from New Zealand, the NZ Herald reported, without disclosing any financial details. PowerbyProxi was founded in 2007 by Auckland University student Fady Mishriki and Greg Cross. Its systems have been licensed for use around the world.

Samsung invested USD 4 million into the company in 2013, taking a stake of just under 10 percent. NZ tech investor Movac has also put money into the company.

PowerbyProxi uses magnetic induction and its rechargeable battery system includes the world's smallest wireless power receivers, which are integrated directly into a device using the existing shape of AA batteries.

Last month Apple announced its plans for wireless charging technology at the iPhone 8 and iPhone X launch event in California. The company is expected to release AirPower, a wireless charging mat for its products, next year.
