Apple, IBM launch first mobile business apps

Apple and IBM have delivered the first set of IBM MobileFirst for iOS offerings in a new class of made-for-business apps and supporting cloud services that bring IBM's big data analytics capabilities to iPhone and iPad users in the enterprise. IBM MobileFirst for iOS services are now available to enterprise customers in banking, retail, insurance, financial services, telecommunications and for governments and airlines, via a collaboration between Apple and IBM. IBM clients that have announced support for IBM MobileFirst for iOS services include: Citi, Air Canada, Sprint and Banorte. 

Built exclusively for iPhone and iPad, IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps are delivered in a secure environment, embedded with analytics and linked to core enterprise processes. The apps can be customised for any organisation and easily deployed, managed and upgraded via cloud services from IBM specifically for iOS devices, with security across the data, app and device.

IBM introduces more iOS enterprise apps

Apple and IBM are expanding their range of enterprise apps for iOS devices with eight new apps, for a total 22 available for ten sectors. The new range includes four apps for nurses and other healthcare professionals to access electronic patient dossiers. IBM also built an app for industrial companies, for foremen to transfer work to colleagues at the end of their shifts. In addition, IBM provides m-commerce apps for retailers, in-cabin flight staff and insurance inspectors.

IBM appoints managing director of ANZ operations

IBM has appointed Kerry Purcell as managing director of IBM Australia and New Zealand. Purcell replaces Jeffrey Rhoda, who has served as acting general manager, following the retirement of Andrew Stevens in August 2014. Bose goods return to Apple Store after two months

Apple has begun selling products from premium audio company Bose some two months after removing them for unexplained reasons. The decision may have been due to a patent infringement action brought by Bose against Apple-owned Beats Electronics. The lawsuit was finally settled out of court in October, according to Apple Insider, allowing the companies to avoid a potential trial. Reports suggest that the removal and reinstatement of Bose's products may have been part of the negotiations between the two compani

Apple again top US smartphone OEM in Oct - study

Apple was the top smartphone manufacturer in the US during the third quarter to end October, though its market share slipped slightly to 41.9 percent from 42.4 percent in the second quarter. Samsung ranked as the second OEM, with 29.3 percent from 28.4 percent, followed by LG with its share also rising, to 7.4 percent from 6.4 percent. Motorola came in fourth, with its market share sliding to 5.2 percent from 5.7 percent, and HTC ranked fifth, with its market share declining to 4.1 percent from 4.7 percent.
