Apple Pay goes live in China

Apple has launched its Apple Pay mobile payment system in China, in partnership with Chinese bankcard association UnionPay. Chinese shoppers can now use the Apple Pay contactless payment system to make purchases, Xinhua news agency reports. Users of the iPhone 6 or more advanced versions, certain iPads and Apple Watches will be able to use their NFC-enabled devices to purchase items in stores across China.

20 Chinese banks have allowed their customers to tie their bank accounts to Apple Pay, and UnionPay is providing compatible point-of-sale (POS) terminals for users to complete the transactions.

The contactless payment system is also available at 1,700 McDonald's locations across China. Apple also lists Lane Crawford, 7-Eleven, Burger King, KFC among merchants already accepting Apple Pay in China. Chinese restaurant review and group buying services Meituan and Dazhongdianping and online retailer Dangdang have also made Apple Pay-compatible versions of their apps available to iPhone users.

Samsung introduces mobile payment service in China

Samsung has introduced its mobile payment service in China with local bank card organization China UnionPay. Samsung's service includes support for select credit and debit cards from nine banks in the country, including China CITIC Bank, China Construction Bank, China Everbright Bank, China Guangfa Bank, China Minsheng Banking, China Merchants Bank, Hua Xia Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Ping An Bank.

Apple Pay set to launch in China

The Apple Pay mobile payment system will be available in China from 18 February for customers of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, according to social media posts by the bank's representatives. Apple previously said the system would launch in China in early 2016, making it Apple Pay's fifth country. ICBC is China's biggest lender by assets. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on ICBC's posts, Reuters reports, but Apple's China website lists 19 Chinese lenders as official Apple Pay partners.

Global m-payment market to jump 38% in 2016 - study

The global mobile payment market will increase by 38 percent year-on-year in 2016, Yonhap news agency reports, citing data compiled by industry tracker TrendForce. The combined amount of transactions processed via m-payment platforms is forecast to jump from USD 450 billion in 2015 to USD 620 billion in 2016 and USD 1.08 trillion in 2019.

Apple to roll out Apple Pay with China UnionPay

Apple will roll out its Apple Pay service in China with China UnionPay. The plan is to roll the service to China UnionPay cardholders early next year after testing the payment method and getting the necessary certification required by Chinese regulators. At that point, China UnionPay cardholders will be able to add their bank cards to Apple Pay on iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad.
