Apple announced a new version of its AirPods. The second generation of the wireless headphones are based on the specially designed H1 chip, which was made to deliver performance efficiencies, faster connect times, more talk time and hands-free use of Apple's digital assistant Siri. In addition, Apple added an optional Wireless Charging Case, so users can charge the headphones on the go without a power socket.
H1 allows the new AirPods to deliver up to 50 percent more talk time compared to the first generation AirPods introduced in 2016. Switching between devices while listening to music on an iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad is more seamless as well, with two times faster connect times, Apple said. For the first time, AirPods also support Siri, making it possible to change songs, make a call, adjust the volume or get directions using voice commands.
The Wireless Charging Case is based on the Qi wireless charging standard and also works with existing AirPods. An LED light indicator located on the front of the case shows the charge status.
AirPods with a standard charging case are available for USD 159 online and will be in Apple Stores starting next week. AirPods with the Wireless Charging Case will cost USD 199, and the case alone costs USD 79.
