AT&T Communications CEO Donovan to retire in October

AT&T announced that John Donovan, CEO of AT&T Communications, will retire from the company from 01 October. A successor will be named soon, the company added. 

Donovan has led AT&T's largest business unit for the past two years. AT&T Communications serves 100 million mobile, broadband and pay-TV customers in the US, and millions of business customers, including nearly all of the Fortune 1000.

He joined AT&T in 2008 as Chief Technology Officer and was then promoted to Chief Strategy Officer and Group President—AT&T Technology and Operations, before being named CEO of AT&T Communications in July 2017.

AT&T has announced new financial targets for the coming three years, following pressure from shareholders such as Elliott Management to rethink its strategy. AT&T sees pay-TV customer losses increasing by 300,000 in Q3

AT&T said it expects to lose more pay-TV subscribers in the third quarter, due to tough negotiations over new distribution agreements with broadcasters and limited promotional activity. Speaking at an investor conference, CEO John Stephens said the loss of premium pay-TV subscribers is expected to exceed the previous quarter by 300,000 to 350,000.

AT&T announced the appointment of Jeff McElfresh as the new CEO of AT&T Communications, its largest division, grouping all its telecom activities. He will report to John Stankey, the CEO of WarnerMedia who has just been named to the new position of president and chief operating officer of AT&T.

AT&T says TV subscriber losses set to continue as it focuses on profitability

AT&T said it expects to continue to lose pay-TV customers in the rest of 2019, as more customers come off two-year contracts and it undergoes distribution disputes with key broadcasters. Speaking at the Oppenheimer investors conference, AT&T CEO John Stephens said the company will focus more on attracting high-quality video customers and stabilising EBITDA at its pay-TV division over the full year.

AT&T has appointed John Stankey as group president and chief strategy officer. Stankey will be responsible for developing the roadmap to maximise future growth opportunities, including corporate development, addressing long-term wireless-capacity needs, capital allocation strategies and identifying the strategic paths for low-growth and non-strategic assets.
