AT&T hits milestone speed of 2Gbps on Atlanta 5G network, with Netgear hotspot

AT&T said it achieved a milestone speed of 2 Gbps on its live 5G network in Atlanta (Georgia) using the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot. The company said sustained speeds would be equivalent to downloading a 2-hour HD film in 10 seconds.

The race is on in the US, and indeed the world, for 5G firsts. AT&T says it is the first carrier to make mobile 5G a reality in the US. T-Mobile US said that the deployment of 600 MHz using 5G ready equipment has reached 3,500 cities and towns in the US. Verizon said it will be bringing its 5G services to 20 more cities, after launching first in Chicago and Minneapolis. Worldwide, KT officially launched its nationwide commercial 5G network in South Korea earlier this month. Meanwhile, Huawei, long considered an expert in 5G equipment, has now come under fire, on suspicions it could be used for espionage ends.
