AT&T starts new USD 200 mln investment fund for ONAP

AT&T said it will put up to USD 200 million into a venture capital fund with the Coral Group and its Communications Industry Platform (CIP) team. The fund will identify and invest in start-up companies with a focus on connected services and platforms, and in technologies that run on the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP), an operating system for software-defined networks.

AT&T and Coral said they will identify additional companies to invest in the fund.

CIP was created from the merger between a platform created in AT&T Labs and an existing effort in open source.  It is being used to manage the company’s own cloud network. ONAP is now an open source platform hosted by the Linux Foundation.
