BlackBerry, Monitise to begin BBM Money trial in Indonesia
UK-based mobile money platform provider Monitise, BlackBerry, and PermataBank will shortly launch a mobile payments service for BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) following a commercial pilot in Indonesia. The BBM Money feature has been created by Indonesian financial institution PermataBank and BlackBerry, with the support of Agit Monitise Indonesia, a joint venture between Monitise Asia Pacific and Astra Graphia Information Technology (Agit). Following approval for the new service from the central bank in Indonesia, BBM Money is rolling out via a commercial pilot for BlackBerry smartphones in the country, ahead of a full launch. BlackBerry users will have the option to access a Mobile Money account from their smartphone and make real-time payments from within BBM to their contacts who are also signed up to the service, buy mobile airtime credit, and transfer money to bank accounts.

Mobile money company Monitise has acquired Agit Monitise Indonesia, its joint venture with PT Astra Graphia Information Technology (Agit). Monitise has paid a total consideration of 12,949,339 ordinary shares of 1p each in Monitise to Agit for the remaining 51 percent stake in Agit Monitise Indonesia. Indonesian financial institution PT Bank Permata (PermataBank), BlackBerry and mobile money company Monitise announced the commercial pilot launch of BBM Money. With BBM Money, customers have the ability to create and access a mobile money account from their BlackBerry smartphone and make payments to their BBM contacts who are also signed up to the service. They can also buy mobile airtime credit and transfer money to bank accounts.

Monitise revenues for H1 2013 up 63% to GBP 28 mln

Monitise saw its revenues for the first half year to 31 December increase 63 percent year-on-year to GBP 27.8 million. Gross margins increased to 72 percent from 64 percent, driven by a greater proportion of user generated revenue.
