BT Group considering more job cuts to reduce workforce by 25% - report

BT Group is considering reducing its 100,00-strong workforce by 25 percent over five years, reports Bloomberg citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. This would be on top of the 13,000 job cuts announced in spring 2018.

According to the sources, there have been internal discussions about a target of cutting its workforce to 75,000. This would be achieved partly through streamlined management, disposal of some businesses, and accelerated automation of back-office processes.

These proposals, discussed before new Group CEO Philip Jansen took up his role earlier in 2019, would target additional annual savings of several hundred million pounds. The sources said that any discussions were preliminary and that BT would not make any announcement until after the company's annual results are reported in May. BT declined to comment on the report.
