The Canton of Geneva has extended its moratorium on the construction of new 5G antennas “until further notice”, Aargauer Zeitung reports. Pauline de Salis, spokeswoman for the local department of regional planning, confirmed the decision of the Canton to daily 20 Minuten.
The local government in Geneva started the moratorium in April, the report added. The extension is a reaction to a report published by the mobile communications and radiation working group of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment, the spokeswoman said. The report noted that the consequences on health of radio frequencies under the limits established in the regulation on protection against non-ionising radiation (NISV) have not been consistently proven, but at the same time suggested the further development of techniques to monitor effects on health and to improve information to the population.
