Chengdu Hi-tech Zone to invest CNY 30 bln into attracting new R&D firms

The high-tech zone of Chengdu in Western China plans to invest CNY 30 billion into attracting new research and development companies over the next five years and has sent invitations to companies worldwide. The first six projects have been announced, including the Chengdu Minshan Power Semiconductor Technology Research Institute and the Chengdu Minshan Microelectronics Advanced Enclosure Technology Research Institute, among others. These six projects received a total of CNY 450 million.

The Minshan Action was launched the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone in January, with the goal of bringing in more companies to the area. The plan is to build 50 new R&D institutions over the coming five years.

China sent into space "the world's first 6G experiment satellite," according to a report on Yicaiglobal.com. The satellite will verify the terahertz (THz) communication technology in space. It was sent to orbit along with 13 other satellites, including 10 NewSat, Beihangxingsat-1 and Bayi 03 commercial remote sensing satellites created by Argentina's Satellogic.

Sichuan Mobile, Huawei team up to transform Chengdu into 5G city

Sichuan Mobile and Huawei launched a multi-dimensional 5G network in Chengdu with the aim to turn Chengdu into one of the world's foremost hi-tech cities. The announcement was made during Huawei's fifth annual Asia Pacific Innovation Day held in Chengdu. The multi-dimensional 5G network platform will leverage Sichuan Mobile's strengths in site resources and use Huawei's 5G all-scenario products such as macro sites, pole sites, and digital indoor systems.

Sichuan Mobile installs China's first 5G subway station in Chengdu

China's first 5G subway station has gone into service in Chengdu, China.org reported. The move follows the opening of the country's first 5G demonstration block in the city last year. The 5G base station was installed by Sichuan Mobile at the Taipingyuan Station of the city's Subway line 10. A high-speed Wi-Fi signal covers the entire station hall.

BOE to make iPhone display screens from new Chengdu plant - report

BOE Technology Group is hoping to supply display screens for Apple's iPhones from its new plant in Chengdu, in Sichuan, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the plans. The company, the world's top producer of large liquid crystal screens, already makes display screen for iPads and MacBooks. It is now looking to provide Apply with advanced OLED (organic light-emitting diode) smartphone screens. BOE is the only Chinese display company that supplies Apple.
