China adds around 35 million 5G subscribers in November

China Telecom led the growth in mobile subscribers in China in November, with a net increase of 700,000, ending the month with 371.94 million in total. China Mobile lost 323,000 customers in the month, but remains the largest mobile operator on the local market with a total of 956.78 million mobile customers. China Unicom ended November with 317.34 million mobile customers, up by 505,000 from October.

China Mobile claimed the biggest gain in 5G subscribers, growing by nearly 19 million in November to 374.38 million 5G customers. China Telecom added more than 10 million 5G users in the month to reach a total of 178.76 million, and China Unicom counted 149.54 million 5G customers in November, up by 6.03 million from the previous month.

China Mobile also showed the strongest growth in the wireline broadband market, adding 2.24 million for a total of 240.56 million. China Unicom grew by 877,000 new customers to a total of 94.83 million, and China Telecom added 700,000 new customers for a base of 169.32 million broadband subscribers at end-November.

China ends 2021 with 730 mln 5G subscribers

China Telecom led the growth in mobile subscribers in China in December 2021, with a net increase of 490,000, ending the month with 372.43 million in total. China Mobile added only 109,000 customers in the month, but remains the largest mobile operator on the local market with a total of 956.89 million mobile customers. China Unicom ended December with 317.11 million mobile customers, down by 225,000 from November.

China's 5G phone shipments soar 64% in 2021

Shipments of 5G phones in China jumped by 63.5 percent year on year to reach 266 million units in 2021, according to Xinhua news agency citing data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).  The figure accounted for 75.9 percent of total shipments during the same period, much higher than the global average of 40.7 percent, said the research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China Unicom appoints Tang as senior VP

China Unicom has appointed Tang Yongbo a senior VP for the company from 30 December. Tang is currently vice general manager and senior VP of China United Network Communications Group Company, and director and senior VP of China United Network Communications Corporation. He was earlier deputy GM and GM for the Hunan Branch of China Unicom and the GM of marketing at China United Network Communications Group Company. He is still a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress.

China Telecom has announced the resignation of Zhu Min, from her positions as an executive director, executive VP, CFO, secretary of the board and authorised representative of the company, from 27 December. Zhu said her resignation did not come from any disagreement with the board.

ZTE announces new wins with China Telecom for core router procurement

ZTE said it was selected by China Telecom in the operator's core router centralised procurement for 2021. The company's core router ZXR10 T8000 took second place with a 30 percent share in the CR-A1 (single device) section and won the CR-A2 (cluster) section with the highest score in overall ranking.

China Mobile moves ahead with Shanghai stock listing

China Mobile announced it has received regulatory clearance to list its shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. In an updated prospectus, the company said it plans to sell up to 845.7 million shares, equal to 3.97 percent of its outstanding ordinary shares. A price will be set following a roadshow with investors, and the number of shares may increase by up to 15 percent if demand is strong.

China PC shipments grow 10% to record 15 million units in Q3

PC shipments (desktops and notebooks) in China grew 3 percent annually and 10 percent sequentially to reach more than 15 million units in the third quarter of 2021. Compared to the year-earlier period, desktop (including desktop workstation) shipments grew 3.8 percent to 5.3 million units, according to a report from Canalys. China Telecom led the growth in mobile subscribers in China in October, with a net increase of 1.58 million, ending the month with 371.24 million in total. China Mobile saw a net increase of 1.40 million customers in the month, and remains the largest operator on the local market with a total of 957.10 million mobile customers. China Unicom ended October with 316.83 million mobile customers, up by 1.28 million from September.

China smartphone market plunges nearly 3% in Q3 amid higher prices, lack of products

Around 80.8 million smartphones were shipped in China in the third quarter of 2021, which represents a decline of 4.7 percent year-on-year. The decline was mainly due to higher average selling prices and a continued lack of products that dramatically stimulated demand, according to a report from IDC.
