China Mobile, Softbank, Vodafone develop mobile internet services lab
China Mobile, Softbank and Vodafone have inked a partnership agreement to establish a Joint Innovation Lab (JIL) to promote the development of new mobile technologies, applications and services. The initiative is expected to help accelerate the commercial deployment of mobile internet services. Based on emerging technologies and market demand, the JIL will initially develop a platform for mobile widgets to boost the development of innovative services that can leverage mobile operators' capabilities. This move is expected to enable different widgets and applications to run on different handset platforms and operating systems across different mobile operators, while protecting customer security, data privacy and billing systems. In addition, the JIL supports the co-operation between vendors and developers in the creation of new applications and services.
