Cisco and Google have agreed a new long-term patent licensing deal. The cross-licensing agreement covers a broad range of products and technologies, helping reduce the potential for litigation, the companies said.
Google said it welcomes discussions with any company interested in a similar arrangement. The company recently announced a similar long-term agreement with Samsung. The licensing deals may help Google avoid sanctions from the European Commission, which has been investigating a possible abuse of Motorola's dominant position in the market for standards-essential mobile technology. While Google has agreed to sell Motorola to Lenovo, it will still hold on to the handset maker's patents and associated litigation.
