Comcast shows new hybrid STB, interactive TV at Cable Show
US cable operator Comcast showed a new TV service at the Cable Show in Chicago, including improved search and interaction functions. The Xfinity TV service is under trial in Augusta, Georgia. It offer customers "fast, intuitive" search among TV, on-demand and DVR content; the personalized MyTV service where users can see and access all of their recordings, favorites and recommendations in one place that reflects their interests, favorite series, sports teams, movies and music; and interactive apps, like traffic and weather, and social apps like Facebook that let users share and discover what to watch with their friends. Intel provided the SoC for the new set-top boxes, Pace developed the hybrid set-top box with tru2way and IP capability, and thePlatform, a Comcast subsidiary, is bringing its cloud-based video publishing system, mpx, as the content management infrastructure for the service. Comcast chairman and CEO Brian L. Roberts will demonstrate the new service and new speeds on the Comcast network at the trade show.
