Daum revenues up 20.7% in Q3

Internet portal Daum Communications reached over 37.2 million users of its KakaoTalk service in this year’s third quarter. KakaoTalk monthly active users in Korea increased from 36.4 million in the second quarter of 2014 and 34.6 million in the third quarter of 2013. Global KakaoTalk monthly active users amounted to 48.4 million at the end of September 2014. Third-quarter combined revenues were up 20.7 percent year-on-year to KRW 221.8 billion, due to mobile and commerce revenue growth. Mobile revenue accounts for 47.9 percent of total revenues.

Third-quarter combined operating income declined by 6 percent year-on-year, due to the seasonal decrease in advertising revenue and incurrence of merger related one-off expenses, the company said. Daum Kakao posted a third-quarter net loss of KRW 6.3 billion. The decrease in net profit was due to the result of re-evaluating Daum’s and Kakao’s assets through the merger process, and one-off other operating expenses.

Total advertising revenue reached KRW 141.9 billion, up 11.9 percent. PC advertising revenue decreased as PC traffic declined while mobile adverting revenue from Ad@m, DDN, Shopping Ad and Plus Friend continues to grow. Game revenues amounted to KRW 67.5 billion, which represtns an increase of 34.9 percent year-on-year. This includes revenues from web-board, publishing, online-channeling and mobile-channeling.
