Dell sells Software group to Francisco, Elliott

Dell has sold its Software Group to Francisco Partners and Elliott Management for an undisclosed amount. Reports put the amount at over USD 2 billion. The deal includes Quest Software and SonicWALL.

Francisco Partners said the operations provide mission-critical software to a base of 180,000 customers, and that the investment group sees significant opportunity to build upon the company’s technology and product portfolio.

SonicWall completes spin-off from Dell, names Conner CEO

Francisco Partners and Elliott Management announced the completion of the acquisition of Dell Software Group and the spin out of SonicWall as an independent company. The acquisition was first announced in June, for a reported USD 2 billion. Bill Conner has been named SonicWall's CEO. Conner previously served as CEO of Silent Circle and CEO of Entrust as well as President of Data Networks and then President of Enterprise Networks at Nortel Networks.

Dell in talks to sell software ops for USD 2 bln - report

Dell is in advanced talks to sell its software division for over USD 2 billion to Francisco Partners and Elliott Management, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Divesting the software assets will help Dell refocus its technology portfolio and bolster its balance sheet after it agreed in October to buy data storage company EMC for USD 67 billion. EMC also owns a controlling stake in VMware.
