Deutsche Telekom, Ewe start fibre joint venture Glasfaser Nordwest
Deutsche Telekom announced the start of the new fibre joint venture Glasfaser Nordwest with utilities group Ewe. The new company has its headquarters in Oldenburg in Lower Saxony, and its two managing directors are Christoph Meurer and Oliver Prostak. 

Prostak led the Market Development operations within the sales management team at Telekom Deutschland’s Wholesale Center in Bonn. Before, he was a senior specialist for controlling in value-added management for large technology cases, also at Telekom Deutschland. 

Meurer worked as head of strategic cooperation at Ewe Tel in Oldenburg and was chief of order and technical service management as well as FTTH project manager at Ewe Tel. He was also in charge of the development of the group in strategic areas, and led projects at board of management level at Ewe AG. 

First agreed at the end of 2017, Glasfaser Nordwest will provide high-speed internet connections over FTTH to up to 1.5 million households and companies in northwestern Germany. It will start to expand the network in Vechta, Belm and Cloppenburg, followed by Achim, Bremen, Bremerhaven, Delmenhorst, Emsdetten, Georgsmarienhuette, Oldenburg, Stade and Tostedt.

Deutsche Telekom forms GlasfaserPlus venture with IFM Investors to expand rural FTTH

Deutsche Telekom said it has agreed to form the 50-50 joint venture GlasfaserPlus with Australian fund manager IFM Investors, which is owned by 23 pension funds. IFM is investing through the IFM Global Infrastructure Fund and will pay EUR 900 million for 50 percent of GlasfaserPlus, valuing the new company at EUR 1.8 billion. The initial payment from the co-investor enables Deutsche Telekom to finance part of its equity obligations in the venture.

Glasfaser Nordwest signs wholesale access deal with Buxtehude utility company

Glasfaser Nordwest, the joint venture between Deutsche Telekom and Ewe, said that it will provide broadband network access to the utility company of the city of Buxtehude in Lower Saxony to market fibre-optic products. Glasfaser Nordwest is currently expanding the network in the northern part of Buxtehude, with over 7,000 fibre connections becoming available from next year.

Deutsche Telekom set to decide on fibre network JV in Germany - report

Deutsche Telekom is close to finalising a deal to set up a joint venture with an investor to finance the construction of fibre-optic connections for four million households in rural areas in Germany, Handelsblatt reported citing people with knowledge of the matter.  The venture would invest around EUR 6 billion to build up the network by 2028.

The Higher Regional Court in Duesseldorf has decided to overturn the approval of the Federal Cartel Office for Glasfaser Nordwest, the joint venture formed by Deutsche Telekom and Ewe Tel to deploy fibre networks in the north of the country, Heise Online report. The court found that the regulator's reasons for approving the JV were "unsustainable". It is almost certain that the case will now go to the Federal Court on appeal, the report said. Ewe meets FY outlook

German utilities group Ewe said it has met its outlook for the fiscal year 2020. The company's revenues remained stable last year at EUR 5.64 billion, compared with 5.65 billion in 2019. Operating earnings before interest and taxes (OEBIT), which represents the key figure for assessing business operations, stood at EUR 442.0 million in 2020, a 3 percent decrease compared with EUR 455.9 million the prior year.
