Deutsche Telekom looks to protect German internet traffic

Deutsche Telekom is hoping to protect local internet traffic from foreign spies by only routing it through domestic connections, reports Reuters. This follows revelations that US spies accessed the private messages of German citizens. A Deutsche Telekom spokesperson said that it would work with other ISPs to agree that all data being transmitted domestically would only be channeled through domestic servers. German magazine 'Wirtschaftswoche' reported that rival German ISP QSC questioned the feasibility of the plans, arguing that it would not be possible to determine whether data was being routed nationally or internationally. The magazine also reported that other ISPs, including Telefonica and Vodafone, were considering whether to join the initiative.
