MagentaGaming enables users to play video games independently of their PC or console. The computing power originates from the cloud and the games are streamed on devices. It works on Windows PCs (Windows 7, 8 and 10), Mac (MacOS X) and Android devices. Telkom plans to use it for iOS and Xbox, too. Controllers can be connected via Bluetooth, WLAN or USB.
Through an app, users can access an extensive library of games. More than 100 games are available for free at the start of the beta phase. Telekom plans to integrate MagentaGaming into MagentaTV.
The firm uses a decentralised server network to provide MagentaGaming. Latency is usually below 50 milliseconds. During the test, the games are streamed in full HD with 60 FPS in stereo. The company plans to stream games in 4K with 5.1 surround sound. Some games can be played in the LTE network at a later stage. Thanks to 5G, the complete games library will become available in mobile mode in the future.
Users will be able to register for the beta test at Gamescom or online at www.telekom.de/magenta-gaming from 24 August.
