Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone complete roaming trial using NB-IoT
The GSMA said that Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone Group have successfully completed the first international roaming trial in Europe using licensed NB-IoT technology. GSMA said the service will ensure seamless coverage and service continuity for millions of connections using Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networks. The trial was performed using global Sims from Deutsche Telekom on Vodafone Spain’s network and global Vodafone Sims on T-Mobile Austria’s network and commercial NB-IoT modules. 

The trials will also provide guidance to other operators in delivering a consistent level of implementation. 

The GSMA said that to date, 29 mobile operators have launched 51 commercial mobile IoT networks around the world. The organisation forecasts that there will be 3.1 billion mobile IoT connections by 2025, including 1.8 billion licensed LPWA connections.

Vodafone Germany activates NB-IoT across over half of LTE network

Vodafone Germany said it has now activated its NarrowBand machine-to-machine (M2M) network across 54 percent of its LTE network, connecting 65 of Germany's 80 largest cities to its M2M network in the process and equipping them with the infrastructure to become smart cities. It aims to activate the NarrowBand technology in 90 percent of its LTE network by late September, enabling up to 4 billion devices to communicate with each other via the NarrowBand Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network.

DeTe releases GPS tracker and app Combi Protect

Deutsche Telekom has released Combi Protect, a product that enables private customers to locate their dogs, valuables, luggage and other items using their smartphone via a GPS tracker and app. The GPS tracker placed on the collar of a dog or another object sends location data via a SIM card to the user's smartphone, enabling them to track down their pets and other objects via the Combi Protect Tracker app.

Deutsche Telekom outfits beehives with IoT sensors at Bonn HQ

Deutsche Telekom said it has outfitted two beehives at its Bonn headquarters with sensors connecting them to the company's NarrowBand Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network for machines. The sensors collect and transmit data on temperature, humidity, weight and sounds from the beehives to a beekeeper via the T-Systems cloud, said Telekom. Deutsche Telekom activates FTTC upgrades for 204,000 households

Deutsche Telekom said 204,000 additional households in 163 cities and communities across Germany now have access to upgraded broadband internet connections delivering speeds up to 100 Mbps in download and 40 Mbps in upload. Among the cities to benefit from this round of upgrades include Tuttlingen (10,600 households), Meerbusch-Osterath (7,700 households), Ingelheim (5,900 households) and Gescher (5,500 households).
