Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Telefonica and United Internet will participate in the 5G auction, Handelsblatt reports citing sources close to the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). The deadline for applying to participate with the agency was 25 January at 15.00 hours.
The Federal Network Agency intends to make the decision on the qualified bidders quickly, a spokesperson said.
German operator Freenet will not take part in the upcoming 5G auction due to the high amount of investment that would be required to build a new mobile network, according to an earlier report of the German newspaper.
United Internet has agreed with ZTE to build part of the 5G network, according to a Die Welt report. A spokesperson said that the company talks with different potential partners.
