Dutch satellite TV provider Joyne declared bankrupt

The Dutch satellite TV provider Joyne has been declared bankrupt by the Noord-Nederland regional court. Started at the end of 2016, the company offered satellite TV to Dutch and Belgian viewers using the Eutelsat 9B satellite.

Joyne is thought to be a small player, with barely a 0.1 percent share of TV subscribers, according to Telecompaper estimates. It faces tough competition in the contracting Dutch TV market, with its main competitor Canal Digitaal recently acquired by Canal Plus. 

According to Totaal TV, services continue for Joyne customers despite the company's financial problems.

Canal Digitaal to lift rates from July

Canal Digitaal is planning to increase prices for TV via satellite by EUR 2 per month from 1 July. Customers who purchase extra smart cards from Canal Digitaal will pay an additional EUR 1.50 per month per card. Customers with two or three smart cards will from July have to pay EUR 3.50-5.00 more. The company will inform its customers about the changes by email.Canal Digitaal said the prices are being adjusted to correct for inflation and to compensate for the higher costs for broadcasting TV channels. Canal Digitaal confirms deal to serve Joyne customers

Joyne, the bankrupt Dutch satellite TV provider, has confirmed a deal for Canal Digitaal to take over its customers. The Joyne website is no longer available and directs customers directly to Canal Digitaal to agree a new subscription. Customers are recommended to visit a satellite dealer or chat with the company online about switching.

Canal Digitaal is interested in taking over the customers of rival Joyne, reports Broadcast Magazine. The satellite TV provider was declared bankrupt on 09 April, with its outstanding debts at a reported EUR 5.5 million.

Joyne launches pay-TV services in the cloud with Conax, Eutelsat, SmarDTV

New Dutch pay-TV provider Joyne has launched pay-TV services in the cloud together with Conax, Eutelsat and SmarDTV. With Eutelsat, Joynehas signed a multi-year, multi-transponder contract for uplink services and content distribution. To handle content security needs, Joyne will use Conax's Contego-as-a-Service cloud-based content protection security hub and the Conax Cardless CAM developed by SmarDTV with pre-integrated security client Conax Core Access.

Eutelsat wins multi-year, multi-transponder deal with Joyne

Eutelsat announced it entered into a multi-year, multi-transponder deal with new Dutch pay-TV provider Joyne under which the operator will use the Eutelsat 9B satellite as its platform to reach viewers in the Netherlands and across Europe. Joyne will officially launch on 24 July, using Eutelsat's Paris-Rambouillet teleport for uplink services.
