Eir wholesale, networks head Lennon to become new CEO

Irish telecoms company Eir confirmed that its new owner NJJ Telecom Europe plans to announce the appointment of Carolan Lennon as CEO-designate and David McRedmond as non-executive chairman-designate. The appointments will become effective after a NJJ Telecom Europe-led consortium completes the acquisition of a majority stake in Eir, which is expected in the first half of 2018. 

Lennon is currently managing director of Open Eir, the company's networks and wholesale division. She has held this position since October 2016, having joined the company in 2000. She will replace Richard Moat as CEO. McRedmond is CEO of An post and will continue in this role. He will take over at Eir from Carl Leaver, who is stepping down as chairman.

Eir adds 9,000 broadband customers in Q3 to reach 919,000

Irish telecoms company Eir has reported revenue down 1 percent year-on-year to EUR 317 million for the third quarter to 31 March, with EBITDA up EUR 6 million or 4 percent year-on-year to EUR 137 million, driven by cost efficiencies within the business. Operating costs for the quarter were down by EUR 5 million or 4 percent from a year earlier.

Irish trade union Forsa has insisted that it would resist any moves to impose compulsory redundancies at telecoms company Eir following its recent change of ownership. This statement follows recent speculation that the new owners could cut up to 1,000 jobs at the company.

Eir will not lower rural infrastructure access costs for NBP

Irish telecoms company Eir has no plans to cut the cost of access to its rural network infrastructure. CEO Richard Moat told the Irish Independent that Eir would facilitate access to its poles and ducts, but only at existing regulated prices of EUR 10-EUR 20 per pole.

Eir reports Q2 revenue up 4% to EUR 125 million

Irish telecoms group Eir has reported revenue for the second quarter to 31 December down 2 percent year-on-year to EUR 322 million, with growth in broadband and bundling offset by reductions in low-margin Eir Business revenue. EBITDA (before storm costs) was up EUR 4 million or 4 percent year-on-year to EUR 125 million. Operating costs (before storm costs) fell by EUR 10 million or 8 percent year-on-year.

Eir withdraws from National Broadband Programme

Irish operator Eir has confirmed its decision to withdraw from the bidding for the National Broadband Programme (NBP), leaving an Enet consortium as the sole bidder. In a statement, eir cited significant commercial issues and and complexity within the tender process and growing uncertainty around a host of pricing and regulatory issues.

Iliad and NJJ to acquire 64.5 percent stake in Irish operator Eir

A consortium combining French operator Iliad and NJJ, the private investment vehicle owned by Iliad's founder Xavier Niel, has agreed to acquire a 64.5 percent stake in Irish telecoms operator Eir. Under the proposed deal, NJJ and Iliad will own 32.9 percent and 31.6 percent respectively.
