Embratel to invest BRL 2.2 billion in Claro Brasil

Brazilian fixed operator Embratel Participacoes will invest up to BRL 2.2 billion in mobile operator Claro Brasil. Both companies are controlled by America Movil, and they have worked together more inrecent years as the company integrates its fixed and mobile operations. The investment will be made via the subscription of new Claro shares, giving Embratel a minority stake in the company. According to Embratel, the investment should facilitate the merger of the fixed and mobile platforms and the offer of integrated services to customers. The initiative follows a board meeting of 11 April, when Embratel, Net Servicos and Claro agreed to consolidate their activities in one company. All three are owned by America Movil.
