Ericsson buys Red Bee Media to bolster broadcast services

Ericsson will acquire UK-headquartered media services company Red Bee Media from Macquarie Advanced Investment Partners, to pursue its strategy of growing in the broadcast services market. The acquisition's value was not disclosed.

Ericsson will take on 1,500 broadcast service professionals, adding new operations in Europe and Australia. The acquisition also broadens Ericsson’s portfolio, following the acquisition of Technicolor’s broadcast services business last year. After completion, Ericsson will have over a third of its 4,000 employees in the UK working in broadcast services, helping TV channels and content owners address the convergence of video and mobility.

Red Bee Media’s services include media asset management, playout and digital video publishing, metadata services, multilingual access and creative services. It produces over 100,000 hours of subtitling a year.
