EU ministers half way to telecom agreement - Oettinger
EU ministers are about half way to completing work on the telecom single market legislation, according to Gunther Oettinger, the Digital Agenda commission. At a press conference after a meeting of EU telecom ministers, Oettinger said there was an intensive discussion of the proposal. While none of the member states rejected the proposal on the table out of hand, many called for further discussion of a variety of details in the plan, according to the commissioner.

The network and information security directive discussed at the ministers' meeting saw better progress, with about 80 percent of the work completed, Oettinger said. The commissioner reiterated the importance of both pieces of legislation and said the EC would be working in the coming days to consider a number of proposals at the meeting from member states. He said he was optimistic work on both directives could be completed in the "coming weeks or months".
