Eurofiber upgrades network capacity

Eurofiber will upgrade the capacity of its national optic transmission network with a factor five. The upgrade is expected to be finished by the end of the third quarter. The upgrade will not cause any issues to Eurofiber's existing customers. Eurofiber has chosen to invest in a new generation of Infinera hardware (XTC-2E), as it can use existing fibre optic connections. The upgrade will allow Eurofiber to deliver multiple 100 Gigabit Ethernet.

Eurofiber's optic network is based on advanced Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing technology. Via the optical transmission network, the company transports several services based on wavelengths between about fifteen locations over one pair of fibre optics. The services are 'point-to-point' connections at speeds of between 10 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet.

Eurofiber explained the upgrade by indicating that traffic to Amsterdam and Rotterdam is so big that the network risks to become full in the near future, impeding the expansion to more customer ports. The number of wave lengths is also increasing to such an extent that it might cause problems to expand (additional) services in the current system.
