Facebook has acquired startup Mobile Technologies, maker of mobile translation app Jibbigo. Financial terms related to the deal have not been disclosed. Facebook will take most of Mobile Technologies’ team to work in the Menlo Park, California campus, according to Jibbigo.
Founded in 2001, Mobile Technologies has developed a number of cross-lingual communication tools, including the Jibbigo speech-to-speech translator on a phone that runs online and also off-line, independent from the internet. Mobile Technologies also deployed an automatic, simultaneous interpretation service for lectures and deployed it in educational settings.
