Facebook Messenger passes 1 bln monthly users
Facebook announced that its Facebook Messenger service has passed 1 billion monthly users around the world. The company last reported 800 million active users for Messenger in mid-January, while its other messaging platform, WhatsApp passed 1 billion users in February. Facebook introduced a floating balloon emoji to mark the milestone for Messenger, inviting customers to use the design to celebrate.

Facebook announced that its Messenger service has reached over 1.2 billion active monthly users. That's up from the milestone of 1 billion users announced in July 2016. The news was posted by David Marcus, head of Messaging products at Facebook, on the social network. Facebook Q2 profits surge as ads drive 59% sales jump

Facebook reported a record net profit for the second quarter, almost tripling that of a year earlier, as a surge in advertising sales drove a 59 percent jump in revenues over the period. Average revenue per user (ARPU) was USD 3.82 in the period, up 38.4 percent from USD 2.76 a year earlier. Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said the company was particularly pleased with its progress in video as it moves towards a world where video is at the heart of all its services.

Facebook Messenger gets group calls

Facebook has started rolling out group calls on Facebook Messenger. Users in a group conversation can now click on the phone icon in order to start a group call. The service is rolling out worldwide over the next 24 hours, the company said. One-to-one VoIP calls over Messenger have already been possible for the past year.
