Facebook tests offline video feature in India

Facebook has started testing its offline video feature in India. The option is now available for users of Facebook version 85 and 86 (beta) for Android, The Times of India reports. According to the same source, the feature allows users to save videos in the 'Saved' section inside the app itself.

This can be done by tapping on the 'Save video' option from the drop down menu in the particular post. Saved videos can be then viewed offline as many times as users want. Customers can save articles and video links on Facebook, an option that was not previously possible in case users were offline.

The offline video download option will only be available for original videos posted on personal Facebook profiles and pages. Video publishers can opt not to make their videos available for offline downloads.

Indian mobile subs spend 45 mins/day on Facebook properties

An Indian mobile phone user spends 144 minutes on average per day on various apps. Facebook emerges as the top mobile publisher capturing one-third of the total time spent on Android smartphones, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. The study also found that Facebook and Google properties combined account for 31 percent of overall mobile sessions, 43 percent of overall time spent by device owners, and 28 percent of the total application data traffic in India.

Facebook will start operating as an internet service provider (ISP) across rural areas in India. The company has acquired bandwidth from state-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in 125 rural areas for INR 100 million for three years, BSNL chairman and managing director Anupam Shrivastava told Business Standard.
