France Telecom employees propose dividend cut
Employees of France Telecom are calling for the operator to reduce its dividend. At the shareholders meeting in June, they will propose that the dividend for 2011 be reduced from the proposed EUR 1.40 per share to EUR 1, Le Monde reports. The proposal is by the employee savings fund which holds a 4 percent stake in the company. FT already cut the dividend compared to a year earlier and plans a lower dividend for 2012. According to union representatives, a further cut of 40 cents would save EUR 1 billion, which could go to debt reduction or investments. "We will soon have a new government, and they will have to decide whether France Telecom will continue to be a cash cow or a flourishing enterprise that invests," said Sebastien Crozier, a representative from union CFE-CGC/Unsa, which together with other employee delegates, proposed the measure.
