Free Mobile improves roaming offer on top-tier plan

French operator Free Mobile has refreshed its top-tier postpaid plan with an improved roaming offer available from 14 March to new and existing customers subscribing to the EUR 19.99 tariff (EUR 15.99 bundled with Free's fixed broadband service).

The operator is now advertising the offer with unlimited calls and texts all year round (within any of the eligible countries and to France), removing the previous restriction of up to 35 days per year. In addition, the amount of data roaming included has increased to 5 GB per month, compared to 3 GB previously.

The regions covered by the offer include the European Union, the French overseas territories, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Iceland, Israel and South Africa.

Orange France, Sosh to implement roam-like-home on 18 May

Orange France and its low-cost brand Sosh are introducing 'roam like home' for all their mobile subscribers traveling in the EU from 18 May. This will enable customers to use their call/text/data allowance within the EU at no extra cost, earlier than the planned deadline of 15 June set by EU telecoms regulation. In addition to the EU countries, the change will also cover automatically Switzerland and Andorra from the same date.

Free Mobile offers unlimited LTE data for Freebox customers

Free Mobile has increased the LTE data allowance available with its top-tier mobile tariff for customers subscribing to a fixed broadband Freebox package and it is now advertising the plan with "unlimited 4G". For all other customers, the monthly LTE data allowance has increased to 100 GB. The monthly subscription has remained unchanged at EUR 15.99 for Freebox customers and EUR 19.99 for other customers.

Red by SFR runs limited promotion for 100 GB mobile plan

SFR has taken another step towards more generous data caps with the launch of a promotional mobile plan offering a 100 GB allowance for EUR 20 per month. Available from 16 March to 03 April, the promotion will be restricted to the first 100,000 sign-ups. The plan also includes a data roaming allowance of 5 GB within Europe and the French overseas territories, as well as unlimited calls to French operators and fixed numbers in Europe, North America and the French overseas territories.

Red by SFR to launch 15 GB data roaming promotion

SFR has responded to the recent launch of Free Mobile's improved roaming offer by announcing a roaming promotion marketed via its Red by SFR brand. Available from 21 March to 06 June, the new '15 GB 100% Roaming' tariff will be priced at EUR 15 per month and will extend the roaming allowance to the US and Canada, in addition to the European Union and the French overseas territories.

French telecom group Iliad reported FY revenue of EUR 4.72 billion in 2016, representing a 7.0 percent increase on 2015. EU reaches compromise on cut in wholesale roaming rates

The European Parliament and Council have reached a compromise on the extent of the reduction to wholesale roaming rates. Under the agreement, the maximum wholesale charge for data will be EUR 7.7 per GB from 17 June and then continue to decrease in stages.
