Freenet Q2 results up in line with outlook

German operator Freenet reported second-quarter results up slightly, in line with its full-year outlook, and said it's on track to meet its targets for growth in the TV market this year. 

Quarterly revenues rose to EUR 839.2 million from EUR 807.7 million a year ago. Mobile services remained the biggest contributor, up to EUR 756.9 million from EUR 737.8 million, while the TV business added EUR 74.7 million, up from EUR 67.6 million in 2016. 

EBITDA increased to EUR 108.4 million from EUR 104.3 million, helped by profits from the company's stake in Swiss operator Sunrise. Excluding this, EBITDA was little changed year-on-year at EUR 98.6 million, as a small increase to EUR 10.5 million at the TV business offset lower results from mobile. Net profit dipped to EUR 50.2 million from EUR 53.0 million. 

Freenet said it was well on track to reach its targets of 800,000 DTT users and 100,000 IPTV customers by year-end. It earlier reported over 500,000 paid DTT users and 50,000 IPTV subscribers at the end of June. 

The financial outlook for the full year remains a slight increase in revenue and EBITDA, excluding the contribution from Sunrise. Mobile customers in the postpaid and no-frills segments are also expected to increase, after growth of 175,000 in the year to June to a total 9.59 million. Compared to March, the number was up from 9.56 million. Postpaid ARPU for the full year is expected stable at EUR 21.4, the same as in Q2.

German operator Freenet announced it saw record earnings in 2017, with the company able to meet or even exceed its targets according to preliminary results. The company reported a 4.3 percent increase in revenues in 2017 to EUR 3.51 billion. Freenet attributed this growth to the increase in sales revenue in its core mobile business as well as "very good developments" in TV.

Freenet TV on track to reach 950,000 subscribers by year's end

Germany's Media Broadcast expects that 950,000 households will have signed up for its Freenet TV service by the end of the year, following the migration to DVB-T2 HD which began at the end of March 2017. Freenet TV currently has about 875,000 customers, said Media Broadcast.

United Internet sales growth accelerates to 5.7% in Q2

German operator United Internet saw its sales growth improve to 5.7 percent in the second quarter to just over EUR 1 billion in revenues, as the takeover of hosting group Strato helped offset negative regulatory effects in the telecom market. EBITDA improved 10.3 percent to EUR 216.9 million, and EBIT was up 7.3 percent to EUR 159.4 million.

Drillisch service revenue grows 14% in Q2, adds 156,000 customers

The company ended the quarter with 3.771 million mobile customers, an increase of 156,000 from March. The budget subscribers grew to 3.243 million from 3.068 million three months earlier, while the number of volume subscribers continued to fall, reaching 464,000 versus 480,000 in March.

Freenet starts ad campaign for DTT service

German operator Freenet announced the start of a new advertising campaign for its digital terrestrial TV service. Starting 14 August, the campaign will run on radio, online, social media and points of sale channels. The ads will focus on the low price of the HD service, for EUR 5.75 per month, which is similar to the cost of a film at the cinema and much less than cable or IPTV providers, Freenet said. The campaign was developed by Brandtouch.

Germany's Waipu.tv said it's signed up over 260,000 households for its IPTV service since launching nine months ago and over 50,000 have opted for on its paid packages. Freenet shareholders approve higher dividend

Shareholders of German operator Freenet have approved a dividend of EUR 1.60 per share for 2016, up from EUR 1.55 the previous year. This is equal to a pay-out of EUR 204.8 million in total and is the eighth consecutive increase in the annual dividend, according to Freenet. Around 57 percent of voting rights were represented at the AGM, and all agenda items were approved. The pay-out date for the dividend is 06 June.

Freenet revenues grow 11.9% due to TV, net profit down

German MVNO and TV operator Freenet reports revenues of EUR 838 million for the first quarter of this year, growing by 11.9 percent mainly due to EUR 74.9 million in TV and media revenues. Freenet sees TV expansion driving higher FY results

German operator Freenet said it expects to reach 800,000 pay-TV subscribers by the end of this year, generating ARPU of EUR 4.50 per month. At its capital markets day, the company said the DVB-T2 offer launched at the end of March had around 1.2-1.5 million users at the end of the first quarter, of which around 160,000 were considered on the paid offer. The new services are expected to lead to "slightly higher" revenues and EBITDA in 2017 and 2018.
