Google adds IoT device management to cloud services platform
Google announced a new platform called Google Cloud IoT Core to help its customers connect and manage IoT devices on the Google Cloud Platform. The fully managed service allows customers to securely connect globally distributed devices to GCP, centrally manage them and build rich applications by integrating with Google's data analytics services. All data ingestion, scalability, availability and performance needs are automatically managed, in the same way as other Google Cloud services.

Google said the service is designed to reduce cost and complexity, enhance security and limit the data fragmentation often present in major IoT deployments. Additional features such as automatic firmware updates and OS security are offered for devices running Android Things. Google also released separately the fourth developer preview of Android Things

The IoT Core service is initially available in a private beta, with hardware partners Actions Semiconductor, Allwinner Technology, ARM, Marvell, Microchip, Intel, Mongoose OS, NXP, Realtek, Sierra Wireless and SOTEC.
