Google builds Android for virtual-reality apps - report
Google is building a version of Android for virtual-reality applications, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the project. The sources said that Google has "tens of engineers" and other staff working on the project. There are now four version of the Android operating system, for smartphones, wearable devices, televisions and cars. Google plans to freely distribute the new one for virtual reality. The company declined to comment.

Google has announced that it will begin testing its self-driving vehicles on public roads in California this summer. After being put through rigorous testing at its Mountain View facilities to ensure that software and sensors work as intended, Google's self-piloted vehicles will be taken out on to the surrounding public roads, complete with a test driver who can take over at any point. Google announced the acquisition of Timeful, a developer of calendar ad scheduling software. No financial deals of the acquisition were closed. Google said the Timeful technology helps users organise their lives by understanding their schedule, habits and needs. Facebook has signed a definitive agreement to acquire immersive virtual reality technology specialist Oculus VR for a total of around USD 2 billion.
