Google has relaunched its hybrid cloud offering under the name Anthos. Based on the Cloud Services Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine announced last year, Anthos works on the Google Cloud as well as on-premise data centres and third-party services like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Google said the aim is to ensure an app can run anywhere—simply, flexibly and securely.
Anthos is 100 percent software, with no need to renew the server stack. Its uses open APIs, so customers can upgrade at their own pace. To help transition to Anthos, the company announced Anthos Migrate in beta, which auto-migrates virtual machines from on-premises or other clouds directly into containers in the Google Kubernetes Engine.
Google said some of the first customers for Anthos include HSBC and Siemens. It's also signed up more than 30 hardware, software and system integration partners ready to help customers leverage Anthos, including Cisco, Intel, VMware, Dell EMC, HPE and Lenovo for the hardware integration. Accenture, Arctiq, Atos, Cognizant, Deloitte, HCL Technologies, NTT Communications, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and WWT are building services to help incorporate Anthos, and over 20 software providers have announced integration support.
