Google is opening up its collaboration software Google Workspace to anyone with a Gmail account. The software previously known as G Suite has to date required a business account. In future, businesses will be able to subscribe to a premium version of Workspace for extra features.
Google Workspace is available from the Google Chat app (previously Hangouts), which gives access to the conferencing platform Meet. From Meet they can start collaborating with others on tasks, open web-based software like Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and access features like smart suggestions for emails and documents.
From later this summer Rooms will be rebranded Spaces and come with an improved interface to integrate multiple tasks and users, the company said. New features planned include in-line topic threading, presence indicators, custom statuses, expressive reactions, and a collapsible view.
The new paid option is called Workspace Individual and is expected to cost around USD 10 per month. Aimed at small businesses, it will offer functions such as smart booking services, professional video meetings and personalized email marketing. Direct Google support also will be part of the package. The first markets to receive the service will be the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and Japan.
