Google to launch Android Pay in Australia in H1 2016
Google announced plans to launch its Android Pay service in Australia in the first half of 2016. The company said it's partnered with major banks such as ANZ, Westpac and others to ensure the mobile wallet works with local Mastercard and Visa cards. Customers will be able to use Android Pay wherever NFC payments are accepted in the country, including merchants such as 7-Eleven, McDonald's and Telstra.

Other banks expected to support the service in Australia include Bank of Melbourne, Bank of South Australia, Bendigo Bank, Cuscal, ING Direct, Macquarie Bank and St. George. Google said it's also working with eftpos to add support for its cards. In addition, Android Pay will support in-app payments and loyalty cards in Australia.

Google said the payment service will launch in more countries in the course of 2016. Australia is the second market for Android Pay, after the initial launch in the US in September.
