Google to test Chrome game streaming with new Assassin's Creed title

Google announced plans to stat a test of live game streaming in its Chrome browser. It's working with Ubisoft to offer the upcoming new game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to a small group of users to test the streaming technology over the Chrome browser on laptops and PCs.

The 'Project Stream' test will start 05 October, with participants receiving free access to the game. Potential participants can apply online and must be at least 17 years old, living in the US and have an internet connection with at least 25 Mbps.

Google said this is the next step in developing steaming technology, after the rise of video and music streaming. The system must deliver the graphically-rich content of a blockbuster game with near-instant interaction between the game controller and the graphics on the screen. Consumers may accept a few seconds of buffering in a film or TV show, but streaming high-quality games requires latency measured in milliseconds, with no graphic degradation.

The trial follows reports in the past year that Google is working on its own subscription gaming service. The company also invested earlier this year in Chushou, a mobile game live streaming platform from China.
