HP considers cutting 8-10% of workforce - report
HP is considering reducing its workforce by 8-10 percent, or at least 25,000 jobs, reports Reuters citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter. The job cuts are being discussed but have not yet been finalised, as new CEO Meg Whitman looks to return the company to growth. HP currently has over 300,000 employees worldwide. The sources said that the job cuts could be announced as early as the week of 21 May when HP announces its quarterly results.

HP confirmed plans for a major restructuring, cutting 27,000 jobs or 8 percent of its global workforce. The restructuring, which will include an early retirement programme, is expected to save the company USD 3.0-3.5 billion per year by the end of fiscal 2014. In addition to job cuts, HP plans cost savings from supply chain optimization, SKU and platform rationalization, go-to-market strategy simplification and business process improvement.
