HTC buys S3 Graphics for USD 300 mln
VIA Technologies announced a definitive agreement to sell all of its shareholding in S3 Graphics to HTC. S3 Graphics is a provider of graphics visualization technologies used in PCs, game consoles and more recently, mobile devices. VIA acquired S3 Graphics in 2001, and in 2005 WTI Investment International, the investment company of VIA chairman Cher Wang, took a stake in the company. HTC will pay a total USD 300 million for all of S3, of which VIA will receive USD 147 million and WTI USD 153 million. Subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions, the transaction is expected to close before the end of 2011.

HTC has cut its outlook for fourth-quarter sales. While a month ago the company forecast revenues up 20-30 percent, HTC said it now expects quarterly revenues flat versus the year-earlier period. HTC loses S3 patents case against Apple

HTC has lost a patent infringement suit brought against Apple at the ITC. The US International Trade Commission said the patent rights of S3 Graphics, a subsidiary of HTC, weren't violated by Apple. It rejected a request for an order that could have limited imports of some Mac computers, the iPhone and iPad. The commission gave no reason for its decision, Bloomberg reports. HTC doubles Q2 net profit

HTC reported a net profit of TWD 17.52 billion for the second quarter, double the TWD 8.64 billion reported a year earlier. EPS rose to TWD 20.63 from 10.56. The preliminary results show quarterly operating profit at TWD 19.24 billion, versus TWD 9.35 billion a year ago, and revenues rose 104 percent to TWD 124.4 billion. HTC earlier forecast a 97 percent increase in second-quarter sales to TWD 120 billion. The company will hold a conference call on 29 July to discuss the results.

HTC revenues beat expectations in Q2

HTC reported revenues of TWD 45.05 billion for June, up 10.9 percent from the previous month and 87.8 percent more than a year earlier. The annual sales increase slowed from over 100 percent in the previous two months. HTC earlier forecast a 97 percent increase in second-quarter sales to TWD 120 billion. The preliminary figures show it beat this guidance, with total revenues of TWD 124.4 billion for the three months. The company will release full quarterly results later in the month.
