HTC launches first phone with Beats audio technology
HTC has announced its first smartphone incorporating the Beats audio technology acquired through its recent takeover of Beats Electronics, the maker of Dr Dre headphones. The HTC Sensation XE will launch from late September in the EMEA region and Asia. In addition to high-quality audio and extended battery life, the Android phone features a 1.5GHz dual processor, an 8GB or 16GB microSD card and the urBeats headphones. The recommended retail price is EUR 599 (including VAT), according to a statement from HTC's Dutch subsidiary.

HTC buys 51% in headphones maker Beats by Dr Dre

HTC has agreed to buy 51 percent of Beats Electronics, known for its Dr Dre headphones, for up to USD 309 million. Under the terms of the agreement, the two brands will focus on bringing high performance sound to HTC phones. The partnership will result in a line of HTC devices integrated with Beats sound innovations, available this autumn. HTC said the takeover will help it target a key demographic, of young people aged 18-35. Beats was started in 2009 and reported first-half revenues of USD 151 million.

HTC revenues beat expectations in Q2

HTC reported revenues of TWD 45.05 billion for June, up 10.9 percent from the previous month and 87.8 percent more than a year earlier. The annual sales increase slowed from over 100 percent in the previous two months. HTC earlier forecast a 97 percent increase in second-quarter sales to TWD 120 billion. The preliminary figures show it beat this guidance, with total revenues of TWD 124.4 billion for the three months. The company will release full quarterly results later in the month.
